Want to get involved with RakuCon?

Volunteers help the con run smoothly, whether it’s helping with setup & breakdown, managing queues, or working behind the scenes at one of our stages, we wouldn’t be able to do it without a wonderful, dedicated team of volunteers.

By volunteering at RakuCon you will get free entry to the con on the day(s) you’re volunteering, the opportunity to get involved with areas of the con that interest you, and the chance to explore the con when you aren’t working.

Please note you must be over 18 to volunteer at RakuCon.

If your application is accepted and you have already purchased a ticket, your ticket will be refunded.

What to expect?

There are different areas of the convention where we need volunteers to help things run smoothly, in the application form you will be able to select which area/s you would like to help out with.

  • Stages - At RakuCon we have 2 stages, the Main Stage in the Momentum Room and the Chibi Stage in Conference Room 2.
    We need volunteers at the stages to ensure a smooth change over between performances and panels, help performers and panels with any setup (e.g setting up the projector or audio), and help with audio mixing during performances and panels.

  • Anime Screening - Anime screenings are new to RakuCon this year and will be taking place in Conference Room 3.

    We need volunteers here to put discs in the Blu-Ray player on time, stop the episodes when the selected number have played, switching show and monitoring the room in general.

  • Help Desks - RakuCon has 2 help desks: the main help desk at the entrance to the con and a second help desk just outside the Pendulum Suite.
    Main Help Desk - This is where attendees pick up their wristbands, you will be helping with scanning tickets and giving out wristbands and any extras depending on the ticket type (some tickets come with a free print & badge).
    There will be a member of RakuCon staff at the main help desk at all times.

    Second Help Desk - This help desk is located just outside the Pendulum Suite and is closer to the rooms used for the convention than the main help desk. Volunteers here will be given copies of the floorplan and schedules to hand out to attendees, you will also help answer queries from attendees, raising any significant issues with a member of RakuCon staff where necessary.

  • Media - Be part of the crew filming and taking photos of the event for our socials!

    Things you may be recording include: general videos of the convention, performances, interviews, activities

  • Load-in/Load-out - Setting up and packing down equipment on the stages and in other rooms. This can involve some heavy lifting.
    There will be an option on the application form to let us know if you are available to help for load-in (Friday) or load-out (Sunday).

  • After Party - There are two main areas that we will need support with for the after party: setup and checking tickets on the door.

    If you help scan tickets on the door, we will create a rota so you will only be on the door for 1 hour max.

  • General Support - This team helps everyone else with a bit of everything. There's no specialised requirements here - the most important thing is that you're flexible! It’s also a good choice if you don’t have preference for what area of the con you help out with, or if you’re happy to be moved between different areas throughout the day(s).
